Six Indian fishermen arrested by navy

On 17 December, four Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested for fishing near Neduntheevu islet off Lanka. Six fishermen from the Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu, India were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy while they were fishing near the Sri Lankan coast, authorities said on Sunday.Assistant director of the fisheries department in Tamil Nadu, Sekar, said the fishermen from the Jegathapattinam village were fishing at Neduntheevu on Saturday night when the Sri Lankan navy arrested them, the Press Trust of India reported. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa recently sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in securing the release of 41 fishermen from the state detained in Sri Lanka, besides 56 boats. The fishermen along with their boat were later taken to Kangesanthurai, he added.
